Building an ADU is not like patching drywall or swapping a faucet. It’s a real structure on a real lot, with permits to pull, setback requirements to navigate (that’s the legally required distance between your build and the property line, measured in feet), and a homeowner on the other side of every decision who’s counting on you to get it right. That’s the job here. We build accessory dwelling units, home additions, and room additions under the Benson ADU Builders name – part of the Relay Home Co. family since 2006. The work is skilled, the sites are clean, and every project leaves with a written price and a 365-Day Done Right Promise attached. If you want to build things that stay built, this is where to start.
Who We’re Looking For
- ADU Field Technician / Installer – Someone comfortable reading a site plan, working in sequence with a crew, and finishing details the way they were drawn, not close enough.
- Apprentice Builder – A newer hand who pays attention, shows up on time, and wants to learn the trade from the framing stage forward rather than jump straight to the finish work.
- Prefab ADU Specialist – A person who understands factory-built units from brands like Abodu, Dvele, Mighty Buildings, or Boxabl and knows that site prep and the foundation underneath are just as important as the unit itself.
- Lead Carpenter / Finish Carpenter – Someone who has opinions about trim, cares whether the gap is even, and can hand off a room that looks exactly like the homeowner was shown at signing.
- Job Site Dispatcher / Project Coordinator – An organized communicator who tracks multiple crews, keeps schedules from slipping, and keeps homeowners informed without anyone having to chase a callback.
- Customer Experience Representative – The live voice on the other end of the phone. Fast to find answers, calm under pressure, and honest about what we can and can’t do on a given timeline.
What We Offer
Real Training and a Path Forward
We don’t drop new people onto a job site and hope things work out. Apprentices start alongside experienced lead builders, learning the sequencing of a real project – site prep, framing, utilities rough-in, finishing – rather than being handed one task forever. Advancement to lead builder happens when the skill is there, not when a calendar says so. We’d rather promote someone who’s ready than fill a slot on schedule.
Work You Can Actually Be Proud Of
Every job at Benson ADU Builders runs under The Relay Visibility Guarantee: a written price before work starts, photo documentation before and after, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise that’s printed on the project, not just mentioned verbally. That structure means you’re never asked to cut corners to save an estimate that was already underpriced. The guarantee only holds if the work holds. That keeps the standard honest.
Local Crew, National Backing
Each Benson ADU Builders location is independently owned and operated, so you’re joining a local crew that knows its market – the local codes, the common setback rules, the soil conditions that affect foundation decisions. At the same time, you’re backed by the resources, brand standards, and supplier relationships of the broader Relay Home Co. family. That means access to materials and prefab options from brands like James Hardie, Plant Prefab, Tuff Shed, and Cover, without the guesswork of sourcing it yourself.
Steady, Real Demand
ADU construction is not a trend that’s going to fade when the news cycle changes. Zoning reform, housing shortages, multigenerational living – these are long-term pressures that keep qualified builders busy. Homeowners who want a permitted, guaranteed addition don’t have many contractors willing to commit to written pricing and a yearlong promise. That’s a gap we fill, and it keeps the pipeline from drying up.
No Experience? Read This.

If you’ve spent time in any trade – roofing, framing, flooring, landscaping, even moving furniture professionally – more transfers than you’d expect. Spatial reasoning, reading a site, working around a homeowner’s schedule, not cutting corners because you’re tired: those habits matter more than your specific tool list on day one.
What we teach is the ADU-specific layer: how prefab units from brands like Boxabl or Mighty Buildings are set and connected, how to read an ADU permit set, how the Relay Visibility Guarantee shapes job-site behavior, and what “done right” looks like on a project that carries a written 365-day promise.
The first few months look like this: you shadow a lead, ask every question you have, and take on increasing responsibility as the skill shows up. Nobody rushes that timeline. If you’re honest about what you know and willing to learn the rest, call us.
